When the father-in-law of my sister died, she takes care of the entire funeral planning. She did it because she knew there is no one who would do it. Both her husband and her mother-in-law are in so much grief at that time. Plus, her husband is the only child.
But, it takes a toll on her as she also suffers both the emotional difficulties and stress of the funeral arrangement. The family was not able to do pre-planning when the deceased was on coma for three days due to his 7th stroke. They still have high hopes that he will make it just like the previous one. Although the physician told them there is no hope, they continue to hang on.
Good thing my sister is at her optimum health at that time. She was able to do all the necessary things needed in funerals during daytime, and then attend the wake during nighttime.
