anxious days are over

It’s a New Year indeed and it’s better to start it right. If my license didn’t come out this year, I already made some plans on doing something different. I’ve been waiting for a long time and no longer have the patience to wait for more. Good thing, before 2011 closed, I received some good news – no it’s great news. So, I’m grateful that I can start my year just as I envisioned it.

However, if that is not the case I already formulated plan B. My resume is already prepared and have done some job vacancy research even in different fields. I’m even tempted to apply for database administrator jobs, though it’s out of my league. I don’t have proven record for this type of job, but it’s not bad to try. Who knows one company will accept my application.

Anyway, no need to worry now as the anxious days are over. I have my license so I can apply to any institution that I like working with. Well, I’m just hoping for good things to happen this year.

Christmas may be over, but not for me. I’m supposed to give everyone some gifts on the Christmas day. Unfortunately, salary did not come before that day. So, I will have to give my gift late than everybody else. It’s better to be late than never, besides Christmas can be celebrated the whole year.

One of the people that I really wanted to give gifts is my aunt and her family especially the little kid Mariea. She is really a sweetie and very talkative indeed. She clings to me whenever I visit their home. I already have gift ideas for kids; thanks to the internet I was able to find good ideas. Oh well, I just wish I will get my salary before the year ends. I can’t do much this time since I’m financially incapable. But, then again Merry Christmas everyone! Let’s enjoy every minute of it.

New GTX 580 MDT X4 Capable of Quad-Display

Several week after KFA2 announced the introduction of the quad-display capable Nvidia GTX 580 MDT X4, the graphics card has become available for purchase from several retailers in Europe with prices starting at 5,100 SEK including VAT (569 EUR or $743 US). KFA2 was able to overcome Nvidia’s limitation for two monitors per card by using a third-party IDT VMM1400 controller, a chip that is usually found in multi-display hub devices.

Despite this change, KFA2′s latest creation somewhat resembles the company’s previous GeForce GTX 580 Anarchy as it uses a similar tri-fan cooling solution, but which was now painted black together with the PCB for a more aggressive look. However, unlike the other GTX 580 model in KFA2 lineup, the MDT version drops the usual dual-link DVI outputs in favor of three mini-HDMI and a single DisplayPort connector, which can support up to four monitors simultaneously, double than Nvidia’s reference design.

Three of the displays attached to the card can be combined to form a single surface (for multi-monitor gaming or productivity) with a resolution of 5760×1080 pixels @ 50Hz. The monitors attached to the graphics card can be controlled from the KFA2 EZY Display Setting Management software that is bundled together with the GTX 580 MDT X4.

As far as clock speeds are concerned, the GPU comes factory overclocked to work at 840MHz compared to the 772MHz of the reference design, while the memory frequency is set at the standard 1002MHz (4008MHz data rate), according to Nordic Hardware. The GeForce GTX 580 is based on Nvidia’s GF110 GPU and it packs 512 stream processors, 64 texture units, 48 ROP units and a 384-bit wide memory bus that is usually connected to 1.5GB of GDDR5 video buffer.

Previous week supposedly my schedule to update this blog, but wifey asked me to change all the outlets and switches of the house. It’s dangerous not to replace them because they are too old, worn out and loose. From what I can remember, the owner said they were installed somewhere in late 70s or 80s. Of course, they were long phased out in the market.

I am not an electrician, but I decided to do the changing myself. We can save a huge chunk of money, if you know what I mean. Plus, I have ideas on it so it will not be a problem. The only challenge I face is not having the right tools. But, I make use of whatever I can find in my things including my humongous pliers, screw driver and a mega safe utility knife. From that I was able to cut the wires using the pliers and was able to expose the copper wire from the plastic wrapper using the utility knife.

I spent two whole days changing all seven outlets and nine switches. The toggle (three way) switch takes a lot of my time. Also, I had a trial and error installing the outlets. Good thing I was able to finish it on the second day. As simple as that I already feel proud of myself.

Winter is really nearing in Abu Dhabi as I can feel the cold breeze kissing my cheeks before I left. I’m sure our roommates now are having hard time dealing with it. They have little choice when it comes to shutting the air-conditioning unit off because the other boarders might be irritated if they do that. So, they need to turn it on even if the weather is getting cold.

Supposedly, the equipment that should be on is the rheem heat pump to keep the temperature at comfortable level. For sure the people in our flat are dying from the cold they feel that is coming from the air-conditioning unit. But, they don’t have much choice as of this time. Luckily, we still can’t suffer that because our flight back home is still on Friday. When that time comes it will be a different story.

conceptualizing the reunion idea

According to my aunt, our family will conduct a reunion next year. After three years, they are now conceptualizing the idea. Although they are still unsure of the month they will hold it, but most probably it’s between April or May just like the last one. She says the last get together was really wonderful and memorable. She never thought it will be that good.

Unfortunately, they fail to document such fantastic event. That’s the reason she is making sure to have videographers and photographers for the incoming reunion. She has also started scouting for dvd duplication company for quotes to include in the budget. For sure everybody wants a remembrance of the event, but not everyone has the time to make a copy. Letting the professional do it, offers convenience and saves our time. Plus, the result is far better just like the ones we see in retail stores.

perfect warmth during cold winter nights

As winter is nearing, sleeping with the air-conditioning unit on is becoming difficult and uncomfortable. I know it’s a bit foolish to keep the unit on, but we might get complaints if we turn it off. We are sharing the unit in one flat and there is at least three rooms sharing the same with at least 14 people. So, turning it off will raise anger from other people. There is little choice, but to find other ways to live with it.

One of the ideas wifey suggests is the use of heated mattress pads. It’s perfect for toasty warmth during the cold winter nights. With that, I’m sure wifey will be able to sleep immediately. Currently, she is having hard time dealing with the cold, despite having thick blanket. So, it would really get rid of her chills and make sleeping fast and comfy. But, I’m still looking for money to buy for it and I have to do it fast because of the discount.

New Sony VAIO Z Ultraportable Revealed

Ever since 2008, every year that passed we saw the introduction of a new VAIO Z series ultra-thin notebook model, and with the latest of these units, the 13.1-inch VPCZ21. Taking a look at the new VAIO Z, the first thing one notices is just how thin and light Sony’s ultra-portable really is, the chassis measuring only 17mm in depth (about 0.66 inches), while the whole notebook weights just 1.2Kg (or 2.6 pounds). In order to achieve such a thin profile and low weight design, Sony’s designers had to resort to all sort of tricks, like the use of a single sided motherboard or to a fold-out RJ45 port, while the chassis is made out of fiberglass and reinforced with aluminum.

Thanks to these high-quality materials, the entire notebook feels surprisingly sturdy and should be able to survive the abuse road warriors will put it through. With the standard 1600×900 resolution panel which fits the 13.1-inch display quite nicely and also features a special anti-glare coating for improving legibility in direct sunlight. Under the hood, users can find a selection of Core i5 and Core i7 processor topping with the Core i7-2620M which features dual computing cores and a 2.7GHz base frequency (up 3.4GHZ in Turbo mode). This can be paired with up to 8GB of system memory, 256GB of storage space via two SSDs in RAID 0 and graphics is provided by the integrated Intel HD 3000 graphics core. The powerful configuration is seconded by a wide range of connectivity features, such as 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, optional 3G, USB 3.0 and HDMI ports as well as Intel Wireless Display 2.0 support.

Like most of you surely know by now, the USB 3.0 port used for the VAIO Z is also employed for connecting an external dock using a Light Peak interface (this actually uses light to transmit data, not copper wires as is the case of Thunderbolt). When the Power Media Dock is connected to the VAIO Z, this adds a slot loading optical drive, a second USB 3.0 port, as well as HDMI, and VGA video outputs. The latter are driven by an AMD Radeon HD 6650M graphics card with 1GB of video buffer included the dock, and enable the VAIO Z to support up to four independent displays simultaneously.

seeking professional debt advice

Everybody is worried over my brother who eagerly and persistently looking for a job. It’s not that he is unemployed; he only feels the need to find another company that can offer him huge salary package. Honestly, he already has a good salary that can suffice the need of a small family. The main problem is that he doesn’t know spending it wisely. He is a big spender and a compulsive buyer. Another description would be shopaholic that leads him to a hefty debt in credit card and in different lenders.

Now, he is worrying how to pay the principal with its snowballing interest. He really needs professional debt advice because no matter how I try to figure it out, it’s somewhat impossible to get out of it. I have my share of debt, but it’s not as serious as compared to his. Thinking about his situation is just giving me goose bumps. It’s a much better idea for him seeking professional help if he really wants to get out of the messy debt problem.

When I was a child, we used to have a cable subscription. But, my parents decided to cut it off because of tight budget especially when the two older kids went to college. We have to let go to some expenses that we can do without. But, it is really a sacrifice because we can’t watch clear tv programs. The reception is really bad in our area; watching television is really a headache. In some way, it was a blessing in disguise because we can concentrate on our studies.

Now that most of the kids are coming to age. Mom and dad are planning to purchase a subscription to have a pastime. But, I find it additional burden to their monthly expenses. That’s why I suggest it’s better to purchase one of those high quality omnidirectional antennas. This will surely give them good television reception without having to pay a monthly subscription. They can save the supposedly monthly fees or spend it to other expenses. I think that’s the best idea.
