Several week after KFA2 announced the introduction of the quad-display capable Nvidia GTX 580 MDT X4, the graphics card has become available for purchase from several retailers in Europe with prices starting at 5,100 SEK including VAT (569 EUR or $743 US). KFA2 was able to overcome Nvidia’s limitation for two monitors per card by using a third-party IDT VMM1400 controller, a chip that is usually found in multi-display hub devices.

Despite this change, KFA2′s latest creation somewhat resembles the company’s previous GeForce GTX 580 Anarchy as it uses a similar tri-fan cooling solution, but which was now painted black together with the PCB for a more aggressive look. However, unlike the other GTX 580 model in KFA2 lineup, the MDT version drops the usual dual-link DVI outputs in favor of three mini-HDMI and a single DisplayPort connector, which can support up to four monitors simultaneously, double than Nvidia’s reference design.

Three of the displays attached to the card can be combined to form a single surface (for multi-monitor gaming or productivity) with a resolution of 5760×1080 pixels @ 50Hz. The monitors attached to the graphics card can be controlled from the KFA2 EZY Display Setting Management software that is bundled together with the GTX 580 MDT X4.

As far as clock speeds are concerned, the GPU comes factory overclocked to work at 840MHz compared to the 772MHz of the reference design, while the memory frequency is set at the standard 1002MHz (4008MHz data rate), according to Nordic Hardware. The GeForce GTX 580 is based on Nvidia’s GF110 GPU and it packs 512 stream processors, 64 texture units, 48 ROP units and a 384-bit wide memory bus that is usually connected to 1.5GB of GDDR5 video buffer.

According to internet rumors Intel had decided to give up on the Atom brand, but it looks like said reports were wrong, according to more recent words on the company’s part, albeit indirect ones. The Atom brand is one that Intel utilizes for a fairly broad range of central processing units, especially those for low-end mobile personal computers.

At present, the entry-level units for low-end notebooks are the ones that have, arguably, shown up most often in the news. Still, the collection includes D, N, Z, E and CE, covering a wide range of electronics, some of which actually have been showing healthy demand. CE is for consumer electronics, Z is for battery optimized chips, N and E are the mainstream models (such as they are) and D is the performance range.

This report says that the Atom branding scheme would be dropped starting in 2012, when Cedar Trail is slated for mass availability. A more recent report says that, according to Brian Fravel, Intel’s director of Marketing for Brand Strategy and Management, the rumor is untrue. Fravel reportedly said that Smart TVs, for instance, are an area where the items are doing particularly well.

Cedar Trail is also supposed to further push the Atom in not just the netbook, but the mobile phone space as well. The company also made some Atom demonstrations during IDF (Intel Developer Forum) and is eager to finish and send out the Medfield. All in all, the Atom brand is not going away any time soon, though it still remains to be seen if Intel decides it appropriate to officially step into the limelight and speak on the matter. After all, some reason exists for this rumor that approaches the level of controversy exhibited by HP’s CEO getting replaced and AMD making its own management changes.

One of the oldest batteries used in laptops is the NiCad, nothing but the Nickel Cadmium, which is very rarely used today. These Nickel Cadmium or the NiCad batteries is very heavier when compared to laptop batteries which are used to day. These NiCad batteries are prone to memory effect and they aren’t environment friendly as it contains heavy metals. Now battery manufactures have stopped manufacturing batteries of this type. The Nickel Metal Hydride or NiMH batteries are less likely to be prone to memory effects, but produces better power when compared to NiCad batteries. However most companies have stopped manufacturing NiMH batteries also.

The Lithium Ion or Li-Ion batteries is the most commonly used batteries used today in Laptops and also in other digital gadgets as Lithium Ion or Li-Ion batteries are compatible, provides excellent power and lesser in weight. Li-Ion batteries are very much useful in smaller and lighter devices such as digital cameras, mobile phones and of course in laptops. Another biggest advantage of Lithium Ion batteries is that they do not suffer memory effect at all! However these batteries tend to lose its charge quickly towards the end of their life span. If this happens, then this is an indication, that the battery needs to be replaced.

Here is useful information on laptop batteries; Laptop batteries are rated by “V” which means voltage and “mAh” which stands for Milliamp-hours. Voltage is the rate of energy or power drawn from the battery into the laptop. The Milliamp-hours shows the run time of the battery. Therefore if the battery has higher mAh / Milliamp-hours, then it means the battery will run for a longer time. Batteries having different mAh / Milliamp-hours can be used for laptops but you need to make sure that the voltage rating is the same. You need to cross check with your laptop manual or you older laptop battery to make sure that voltage rating is the same. In case if you’re using batteries of different voltage, then it can cause very serious damage to your laptop.

Here are some useful tips to ensure optimal battery life: Use the AC adapter whenever possible, try lowering the brightness settings on the screen backlight. Set the Windows Power Management settings to maximum savings. Try turning off AutoSaved features and disable auto Insert Notification on the CD-ROM. Also disconnect any unused devices such as modems when not in use. Put your laptop to Hibernate or Suspend feature when you are taking a break.

This lineup will be comprised out of no less than 11 motherboards, but the Z68MX-UD3H-B3 is one of just four models to feature support for the Sandy Bridge integrated graphics as all the other lack any kind of display outputs.

This bears an eerie resemblance with the Z68-UD3P-B3, but it uses a much lighter VRM setup that consists only of 7 phases in comparison with the 14 phases of the UD3P. Otherwise, both models feature the same expansion slot layout, which includes 2 PCI-Express 2.0 x16 that work in an x8 mode when both are populated, three PCI-E x1 and two legacy PCI slots. The Z68MX-UD3H is also compatible with 2-way SLI and CrosFire setups.

Storage is provided by four SATA 6Gbps ports and three SATA 3Gbps ports, as the fourth such connector was routed to the rear I/O panel as an eSATA port. This is accompanied by four USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0 ports, a PS/2 port, a FireWire connector, a Gigabit Ethernet interface, 7.1-channel audio with optical S/PDIF out, and a full set of video outputs which includes D-Sub, DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort.

As the web has evolved, so have the methods of collecting personal information. A large number of websites require visitors to register to gain access or participate. While the need for registration is understandable, tracking user names and passwords can be burdensome. Consider using software to store your passwords, in a safe accessible manner.

Most websites have privacy policies, but the value of privacy statements is only as honorable as the people behind the websites. Here are suggestions for keeping passwords and your information secure:

change your password frequently

never share your password with anyone

try to choose a password so it doesn’t need to be written down, but not so obvious others would easily guess the password

be sure your password is at least 6 characters

don’t use a password containing all the same characters

don’t send your password via email or provide it over the phone

don’t use pet, family or friend names

don’t use your telephone number, zip code or address

use a different password for each account

don’t use user name

deactivate accounts for terminated employees

don’t allow shared accounts

password contains upper, lowercase letters, non-letter characters and numbers

Passwords are not foolproof. Do not rely on a password alone to protect sensitive information. Monitor accounts closely to ensure that security is not breached.

Advanced Micro Devices even after months of searching for a new chief executive officer, still has not succeeded in finding a suitable replacement for Dirk Meyer. Not having a leader is definitely not a good thing for any organization, and while an Interim can keep things in check for a short while, the mid to long term plans are still up in the air if no actual CEO is chosen.

For those that don’t remember, about two months ago, Dirk Meyer, the Chief Executive officer of Advanced Micro Devices, announced he was resigning. If anything, this was a very sudden move, one that certain officials, like Co-Founder Jerry Sanders, didn’t agree with, according to later reports that said Meyer had been removed because of a presumably unsatisfactory plan for tablet PCs.

Either way, the CEO left and, even though it has now been two months since the deed, the Sunnyvale, California-based company is still leaderless. Granted, CFO Thomas Seifert has been filling the seat of interim in the meantime, but while this is enough to manage the company’s short term plans, the mid to long-term strategies are more or less up in the air at the moment.

Naturally, in such a situation, the board should be looking for new head figures but, oddly enough, the market is quite bereft of any reports regarding such movements, something certain others also remarked on. Oddly enough, however, there has been word of no such overtures, unsuccessful or otherwise, and any further delays may cause investors to wonder what will become of the CPU, GPU and APU maker if it remains adrift in the sea of uncertainty for much longer.

The video display consists of a Graphics Card, Monitor, and the Bus. If you’re wondering what the heck a Bus is in any video display, it’s the data path along which data moves into, out of, and inside the computer.

This data is sent from the motherboard and central processing unit, to the graphics card, travels along the data path or Bus, to the Monitor where our eyes can see it. The data Bus is partly responsible for our clear and fast the graphics of our favorite games are displayed.

It does not matter how fast the CPU chip or graphics card can send data if the Bus becomes too small and prevents the data from traveling fast. This causes a bottleneck of data when the graphics card sends data faster than the Bus can allow it to travel.

The first Bus was introduced by IBM or International Business Machines and was called the ISA. The Industry Standard Architecture Bus was slow and weak since it sent data at just 4MHz.

But it was matched with the CPU chip of that day. The average cpu speed during this time was around 4.77MHz. This bus came in 1981 and IBM created a faster bus soon after with a 16 bit bus with a cpu speed of 8 to 10 MHz three years later.

By this time many other computer makers were building Computers using the IBM design and IBM quickly responded to the competition by making a proprietary bus called the MCA or Micro Channel Architecture.

When IBM built proprietary Buses they mean they built hardware or software, in this case Buses, owned and controlled by a single individual or organization.

The Bus technology came about in the following order.

1983 IBM introduced the ISA Bus and in 1984 the faster 16 bit ISA Bus arrived. Then in 1987 the 32 bit MCA Bus showed up. And in 1988 Compaq and other PC makers released the 32 bit EISA or Extended Industry Standard Architecture bus

1993 brought us the Video Electronics Standards Association or the VESA Bus. This year also allowed the release of the PCI or Personal Computer Interconnect Bus.

And in 1996 came the AGP or the Advanced Graphics Port while 1998 brought us the AGP 2.0 and in 2002 came the, you got it, the AGP 3.0 data bus.

Finally in 2005 Intel and AMD introduced computers running at speeds of 4Gigabytes or more. At these speeds the AGP port presented at slowdown for the data.

So the folks at Intel put their heads together and came up with the PCIe. The Personal Computer Interconnect Express. The bus is like the PCI but uses a serial port whereas the PCI use parallel ports.

Parallel ports send data in chumps and Serial ports send data one at a time. With the PCI bus, each slot share a maximum of 132MB a second and the PCIe allows each slot to have 250 Megabytes a second to send data.

PCIe is intended to be used as a local interconnect only, as it is based on the existing PCI system, cards, and systems can be adapted to PCI Express without any change in software. The higher speeds on PCIe allow it to replace almost all existing buses. Nearly all high end graphics cards today in 2006 from AIT and NVIDIA use PCI Express, and Nvidia use the faster data transfer of PCIe for their SLI or Scalable Link Interface technology. This technology allows two graphics cards of the same chipset and model number to be ran at the same time. This greatly boost performance like you never thought possible. Not to be out done, ATI came on the scene with their dual GPU system or Graphics Processing Unit called the Crossfire.

As you can see, the PCI Express bus is faster and if possible, when purchasing your next computer, be certain it comes with PCI Express slots. The AGP data bus was fast compared to the PCI but they are both fading away. So it is very beneficial to you if you get to know and understand the PCIe in every detail.

For several years, people have been storing their computer data locally in order to make sure that it is safe. The Internet, however, is changing a lot of different things. One change that seems to be happening is that many individuals are switching over to a remote data storage backup. There are many different reasons why they may do this but ultimately, it comes down to just a few, convenience, price and options. Let’s take a look at each of these three and see why backing your data on the Internet really does beat backing it up locally.

Convenience - Many people would argue that backing up your data locally is very convenient. When you really think about it, however, how convenient is it? If you’re going to back your data properly, you need to make sure that you run the backup every night. This typically means that you must be there while the backup is running. While the data is being accessed, your computer typically slows down as a result of the additional activity. It almost becomes drudgery, backing up your data in order to make sure that it is safe. After that, you need to take the data to a secure location that is away from the computer should a tragedy strike. By backing your data on a remote server, over the Internet, you can schedule it to happen after you have already left for the night. The data is safely Off-site and all of your days’ work as well as the rest of your data is secure at another location.

Price – Depending on your backup needs, you might spend hundreds of dollars on a backup system, multiple tapes or backup media and a technician to make sure that it is all installed properly. If something should go wrong with the system, you can plan on spending it all again, not to mention upgrades that need to take place periodically. On a remote backup system, the only thing that you have is a small monthly fee which is flexible, depending on the amount of server space that you actually need. Any upgrades that need to take place will not affect your price at all.

Options - You do have several different options when it comes to a backup drive. These options, however, typically come in the form of the type of media that you plan on using. A local backup drive cannot really stack up to the options that are offered via remote backup service. Things such as automatic backups, redundant storage sites and multiple servers are just some of the features which you might find beneficial.

The Internet certainly is changing things. Fortunately, it is also changing the way that we store our backup files for the better. Take advantage of the new technology and keep your data safe in a remote location. Not only is it convenient, it is the better choice.

Most of us don’t make a real difference between worm, virus and Trojan Horse or refer to a worm or Trojan Horse as a virus. All of us know all are malicious programs that can cause very serious damage to PC. Exist differences among the three, and knowing those differences can help you better protect your computer from their often damaging effects.

A computer virus is a program or piece of code that is loaded onto your computer without your knowledge and runs against your wishes. Some viruses cause only mildly annoying effects while others can damage your hardware, software or files. Almost all viruses are attached to an executable file, which means the virus may exist on your computer but it cannot infect your computer unless you run or open the malicious program. A virus cannot be spread without a human action, (such as running an infected program) to keep it going. People continue the spread of a computer virus, mostly unknowingly, by sharing infecting files or sending e-mails with viruses as attachments in the e-mail.

A worm is a program or algorithm that replicates itself. A worm has the capability to travel without any help from a person from PC to PC and have ability to replicate itself on your system, so rather than your computer sending out a single worm, it could send out hundreds or thousands of copies of itself, creating a huge devastating effect.

A Trojan Horse is a destructive program that “working” as a benign application (like changing your desktop, adding silly active desktop icons) or can cause serious damage by deleting files and destroying information on your system. Trojans are also known to create a back door on your computer that gives malicious users access to your system, possibly allowing confidential or personal information to be compromised. Trojans do not reproduce by infecting other files nor do they self-replicate.

Added into the mix, we also have what is called a blended threat. Blended threats combine the characteristics of viruses, worms, Trojan Horses, and malicious code with server and Internet vulnerabilities. By using multiple methods and techniques, blended threats can rapidly spread and cause widespread damage. Characteristics of blended threats include: causes harm, propagates by multiple methods, attacks from multiple points, and exploits vulnerabilities. This combination of method and techniques means blended threats can spread quickly and cause widespread damage. Characteristics of blended threats include: causes harm, propagates by multiple methods, attacks from multiple points and exploits vulnerabilities. They are considered to be the worst risk to security since the inception of viruses, as most blended threats require no human intervention to propagate.

Therefore is very important to protect your PC with good anti-virus software installed on your system with the latest fixes for new viruses, worms, and Trojan horses.

In addition, you want to make sure your anti-virus program has the ability to scan e-mail and files as they are downloaded from the Internet. This will help prevent malicious programs from even reaching your computer. You should also install a system that prevents unauthorized use and access to your computer (firewall as well). A good software firewall will protect your computer from outside attempts to control or gain access your computer, and usually provides additional protection against the most common Trojan programs or e-mail worms.

When you buy a headset, you should see some features which are necessary to make it suitable for you. Whether it is a Bluetooth enabled one or the traditional stuff, you should ascertain that the headset meets your requirements. In this regard, the following few points will be of paramount help. You will get to know which type of headset will be suitable for the kind of purpose you have.

Low cost, lightweight, reliability, comfort and power are some of the most important features you should look for in a headset. Among the other matters which is very important and need to be taken into account when ordering headsets is the issue of connectivity. There are more than one ways in which a headset can be attached to telephone, terminal, PC etc. It depends upon what it is connected to and what type of line it is working on.

In the world of headsets, Bluetooth is the household name now, getting rid of disturbing wires hanging from the shoulder while enjoying the same voice clarity is a welcome relief. And this is possible when you use a Bluetooth headset. So far the trend is to use such type of headsets only with mobile phones. But there is no reason for the PC community to not make use of it.

It is true that the need of a Bluetooth headset is not as strong for a PC as it is with a mobile phone. You use this device with your mobile phone when you are on the move. On the other hand, when you are using the PC, you are stable in a position. So, the need of Bluetooth computer headset may not be as important. Probably, because of this, there is no PC hardware manufacturer who has designed a Bluetooth headset primarily for a PC.
